The first mention of the village of Byaroza occurs in 1477. After the building of the monastery, the town got its second name - Beryoza-Kartuzskaya (Kartuz-Bereza). After the closure of the monastery in 1830-1831 the town began to be called Beryoza Kazyonnaya, however, the name did not stick. In 1940, Beryoza-Kartuzskaya was renamed to Beryoza.
