From late 18th century to 1919, Lithuania was a part of Russia. Klibansky (Klebanski, Klebonsky, Klebonski, Klebansky and all other transliterated variants) was a pretty common Jewish surname in this region.

Yavneh was one of the two traditional religious school networks. The other was Tarbut.

When did your immigrant/ancestor emigrate, appx when, what was the given name and where did he/she settle upon immigration?

My grandfather, Lazar Klibansky (Eliezer) came from Bialystok. He was born in 1896. He migrated to Palestine around 1925 then to South Africa in 1930. He had a sister, Esther who migrated to USA and possibly two other siblings, Reuven and Chona

Interesting that you say your grandfather emigrated to South Africa. Do you know to which city he may have emigrated to in South Africa?

Hi, my maiden name was Klibansky (Kaye). My parents also came from Lithuania. My grandfather was Julius and my grandmother was Pessa. My late father Alec was one of 7 children. My grandmother's maiden name was Fine. The family immigrated to South Africa in about 1909.

I live in Johannesburg and wondered if there may be a family connection?

Hi Anne, do you know which town your father was born in Lithuania? My father never knew that he might have family that escaped prior to the war.
