Post by Gianna Podpolucha L » 02 Jul 2003, 16:10

hello...I recieved records of ship log of my grandparents coming to america and I dont understand it says they were from W.Cieplicz Pinsk Reg. also Czatalice Pinsk Reg., and then Cieplik Russia. Ive been looking on maps around Pinsk and dont see these names. Am i looking in right place? Also if anyone knows about the name Podpolucha? It seems to me that it might have been changed because the spelling and I cant figure out what it might have been. Thanks so much to anyone who can help me.

Prior to WWI, Pinsk (UEZD/District TOWN/Center***) was in Minsk gubernia (Minsk province) of the Russian Empire. Between the wars, Pinsk was in Poleskie wojewoidztwa (Polesie province) of Poland. After WWII, Pinsk was in the U.S.S.R. Today, Pinsk is in Belarus.

***Immigrants frequently referred to their district center as place of origin for geographical reference, because their own villages were small.
